“And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”  (Mt 28:20)

Revelations 19 describes a beautiful image of the Rider in a red cloak, riding in power upon a white horse. It says that the Rider’s cloak was dipped in Blood, and that His name was Word of God (cf. Rv 19:11-14). The Rider is the Lamb Who was slain, the Word of God, Who comes now in power to take up residency in us. His presence within empowers us to be the Lamb, to lay down our lives for others. It is no wonder, then, that Our Lady said at Cana, “Do whatever He tells you” (Jn 2:5). She understood the power of obedience. Consecration to a life of obedience means we are consecrated to a life of intimacy with Him, because obedience always brings us to union and intimacy with God. Being in union with the will of God always brings us phenomenal peace. The angel at Bethlehem proclaimed peace on earth to those of good will. “Good will” is God’s will for us. Satan hates it when we are in this union of obedience because intimacy with God also brings us tremendous joy – another thing satan does not have.

He challenged Adam and Eve with his lies in the Garden of Eden because he envied the beautiful, intimate relationship that Adam and Eve had with God. All he wanted was to destroy this beautiful relationship. The Old Testament tells us that satan entered the world through envy (cf. Wis 2:24). He envies our intimacy with God, something he lost through his disobedience.

Contemplative spirituality is necessary for each and every one of us because it builds our relationship with God, and this relationship is everything. Jesus said, “Blessed are they who hear the word of God and live it out” (Lk 11:28). To hear His daily Word for us, we need to be listening for it on a daily basis. God said, “My words are Spirit and Life” (Jn 6:63). We need to be fed daily with His Word. It is through our relationship that we will grow to love God more and more each day. We are made to be loved and to give it away. There is always more and we will never run out of the love He has to give us.

“As the Father loves Me, so I also love you. Remain in My Love.” (Jn 15:9)
