“This is My beloved Son, with Whom I am well pleased; listen to Him” (Mt 17:5)
In John 1:14 we read, “We have seen His glory!” It is the glory of an only Son coming from the Father filled with enduring love. We have seen His Son overshadowed by the Spirit. “Holy is His Name” (Lk 1:49). We too can say we have seen His Son. We can say, “We have seen the Lord” (cf. Jn 20:25).
The Kingdom of God is one of eternal Life. That is the promise and we are to know the Father and the One Whom He sent. We will know the Father and Jesus, the One Whom He sent, by experiencing Them. We can only experience Jesus and the Father if we listen to them. Go into your inner room and listen, that you may experience His Word more fully, and that the Kingdom may come more fully in you. This will empower you to ask God to have His Kingdom come in others.
This is beautifully illustrated in the prophetic words spoken by Zechariah in the first chapter of Luke, recited each day in the Benedictus, the Morning Prayer of the Church. Zechariah was struck dumb for nine months, while new life grew in his wife, Elizabeth. In a way, new life was also growing within Zechariah. It was his new life in the Spirit. When he finally opened his mouth, he could speak! He had learned so much in the silence. One of the things he learned was that the Holy Spirit, the Light of God, the Dayspring from on High, will visit us in His mercy (cf. Lk 1:78-79). He will give His people an experience of Salvation in freedom from their sins (cf. Lk 1:77).
“Father, your Kingdom come!” (Mt 6:10)
