Excerpt from Prepare the Way of the Lord Album by our Mother Foundress
“It is the Spirit that gives life…The words I have spoken to you are Spirit and Life.” (Jn 6:63)
The Holy Spirit, as one writer mentioned, is God’s birthing agent. When we pray, when we are in travail, when we let God and the Spirit have Their way, the Spirit goes out and breathes new Life into people (Gen 2:7). When He moves, hovers and overshadows, He is the Lord and Giver of Life. We say that every time we say the Creed, “I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of Life.” This is how we are parenting. We are giving Life through the Spirit in this spiritual ministry of intercession through heart piercings, through our love. It is all about love. We give birth to Jesus –always Jesus. Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life” (Jn 14:6). What the Holy Spirit was actually doing in Genesis when He breathed over those waters was giving birth to God’s new creation, to the earth. This is exactly what He continues to do now. He gives birth to God’s new creation – to earthen vessels.
Our Lady knew the power of the Holy Spirit. She knew His mission and what He wants to continue to do today. He wants to continue this birthing process in, with and through us, now. He wants to go far beyond anything we can imagine. What you read about Abraham and Sarah (Gen 21: 1-8) was not just about them. It started with them. The Holy Spirit birthed a whole nation through these two. He can start with just one or two of you. He can start with a little intercessory group. It can birth a whole parish, a whole city, a whole country. All things are possible with God.
In Scripture we are told that when Peter came out of the upper room, his shadow was healing (Acts 5:15). It was not really Peter’s shadow that healed; it was the Holy Spirit hovering over him. The pure Light which created the shadow was the power of the Holy Spirit. We are living in the age of the Holy Spirit. Intercession is His ministry. He wants to be set free, through us and by us. He wants to give birth, to give Life over and over again, right now.
“Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to Your word.” (Lk 1:38)
