“No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends.” (Jn 15:13)
Love wants to please the beloved. It can be a suffering love as it was for Our Lady. There was a tremendous cross for Her in Her obedience to God. We see it fully at the foot of the Cross when the prophetic word was very visible, “Your own Heart a sword shall pierce” (Lk 2:34-35). It is the Sword of the Spirit, the Sword of Love. Love is always what pierces our hearts. Have you ever noticed that when you are in the most pain, it is from people you love? It comes from people you love, animals you love or children you love, someone close. Only love can pierce the heart and there is power that comes out of that kind of piercing. It happens when God’s Spirit leads us into situations where we would rather not go or to do what we would rather not do. But this kind of love (God’s piercing) covers a multitude of sins (1 Pt 4:8).
“Greater love than this no one has,” Jesus said (Jn 15:13). If your heart is being pierced know that you are being used deeply by God. You hardly even have to pray. You are just living fully in intercession, in the full power of intercession. That pain might be coming from one person but it might be used for hundreds of others. God can apply it to many people or He may just use it for one. That is up to the Lord. Your surrender will bring forth God’s love. It casts the Fire upon the earth that He so desires to go forth from the piercing of the heart.
Love wants to please the beloved. “Love one another as I have loved you.” If we simply live out that commandment and nothing else, we will become tremendous intercessors, powerful intercessors, surrendered intercessors. We will be bringing forth agape love, the power and the wisdom of God, not only to ourselves, or to our community or to those we love, but to the whole world.
“I have come to set the earth on Fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!” (Lk 12:49)
