Excerpt from God’s Armor
By M. Nadine

“Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in Her Heart.” (Lk 2:19)

We also see the desire of God’s Heart as we come to know Him in Revelation 12. We see the reference to the Woman being Our Lady, but the Woman also being prototype of the Church. God wants to give the gift of contemplative spirituality again to the Church. Contemplative spirituality has always been in the Church, but it’s going to come in a fuller way now because the Church is being called to come into the desert, into the silence, into this level of prayer.

We are being called into the silence to hear God, to know Him, and to experience Him. God is trying to prepare us, the Church. The Church has always been prepared in the desert and has always been renewed through desert spirituality. These desert experiences are nothing to be afraid of for they will bring strength and vitality to the Church through this union with the Trinity. This is what God is trying to do now.

Jesus wants His Church to hear His words. He wants His Church to once again become a prophetic Church, a Church that teaches His Word, a Church that speaks His Word, lives His Word, and witnesses to His Word. In Ezekiel 37:4 we read, “Then He said to me, ‘Prophesy over these bones, and say to them: Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord!’” The contemplative John said “What we have seen and heard we proclaim in turn to you” (1 Jn 1:3). This is witnessing first hand, not recounting what we read about. People know when we know the Lord. They can feel the fire and love from deep within us. It just pours out and they receive.

God wants us to have the experience of Him so that we know what’s He’s like. He wants us to have the experience of Him so we understand what He is saying. Once we know Him, then we’re going to tell others. We’ll tell the whole world. Evangelization will be easy!

So let the Word, Jesus, become enfleshed within you and grow. Do not stifle the Spirit. Do not stifle Scripture. Let them speak to you. Let Jesus communicate again with His Father through you. Let Jesus continue to surrender and be led by the Spirit because He wants to live His life again in each of us.

“So shall my Word be that goes forth from my mouth; It shall not return to me void, but shall do my will, achieving the end for which I sent it.” (Is 55:11)
