“One thing I ask of the LORD; this I seek: To dwell in the Lord’s house all the days of my life, to gaze on the Lord’s beauty, to visit his temple.” (Ps 27:4)

God is calling us to immerse ourselves in the life of the Trinity. I really believe that listening to the Holy Spirit can become the highest form of prayer. There is no greater power than Trinitarian power. In this way we become a house of prayer. We call Mary the Ark of the New Covenant because she housed God. That was the purpose of the Ark (cf. Ex 25:8). We, too, are a house of God. Throughout the Old and New Testament, we hear the cry of God, “I want my house (His Church) to be a house of prayer for all peoples” (Is 56:7). He wants His house to be a house of prayer filled with the Trinitarian life of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We now become the seventh covenant, and just like He did on the seventh day in Genesis, He rests. It is contemplation at its best, prayer power at its best.

As you allow the Holy Spirit to direct you, your life will begin to change. You will realize as Paul did, that the life you live now, is not your own (cf. Gal 2:20). It came as quite a shock to me to realize that my life is not my own. We are called to live His life, and to let Him continue to live in flesh and blood within us. Paul recognized this and said, “I live, no not I, but Christ lives within me” (Gal 2:20). He made an even stronger statement when he said, “For me to live is Christ” (Phil 1:21). Can we say that? The life I live is not my own. You will see changes, especially in your prayer life. It will have tremendous power. It will have the prayer power of Jesus who said, “The Father always hears Me.” That is why Jesus said, “Ask the Father anything. But ask Him in My Name” (cf. Jn 14:13-14). Remember that it is not the words that make the difference, but the relationship we have with Jesus. We have His Name because we are in relationship with Him. When a woman marries, she has her husband’s name. We now have God’s name because of our union with Him.

With Jesus alive in us, our perspective will change. We begin to see through His eyes, and as a result, we react quite differently. Jesus said, “I do only what pleases the Father” (cf. Jn 5:19). We can converse with the Father everyday because Jesus is in union with the Father. In that light we see light (cf. Ps 36:10), and we learn what does or does not please the Father. Life in the Spirit, the Trinitarian relationship, begins to direct our course and our discernment. Discernment comes forth from God’s light and we too will know, because we are children of the Light, His children.

“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of Light” (Eph 5:8)
